I didn’t want to take any risks having my dog 5 month-old Golden Retriever's retained baby tooth extracted. So, I chose Veterinary Dental Services “few and far between” specialty practice and a one day event given the facility is 52 miles from home. I trusted in reasonable fees - given a policy of no fee quoted prior to in-person consult. In hindsight, I was setting myself up for unnecessary expense and a full day away from work.

5 month old golden retriever retained baby tooth extraction on Feb. 24, 2017. Invoice: 429339

My old man Cuba was seen yesterday to repair an oronasal fistula that he had. While there, they discovered a lot of other hidden dental issues and fixed those as well. Dr. Carle was wonderful. Very sweet and thorough. I was updated several times throughout the day about Cuba's status.

I had to drive from an 1.5 hours away so I hung out in their lounge all day. Very comfortable little space and it made the wait more enjoyable.

Came here because my dog fractured a tooth. Excellent staff, beautiful and clean facilities, and comfy lounge w/ wifi and coffee for pet parents waiting for animals during procedures.

Took great care of our cat, explained everything clearly and in detail.

SERVICE EXPERIENCE:

They had a beautiful, modern facility and professional staff. It was a long day but I'm excited to see how Cuba does once he's all healed up. I have high hopes that he'll be feeling a lot better soon!

My bad for not insisting on a range of service fees for the procedure. I ended up paying an unreasonably high bill for services other professional vets offered closer to home at a reasonable price.

I chose to bring my dog here because it's one of only a few practices in New England with board certified veterinary dental specialists. Plus, they're accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association.

COST:

High degree of knowledge, professionalism, caring in their vets and staff. Nicely designed facility which was both pleasing to one's senses and was comfortable.

$1614.37. By comparison: a local vet quoted me $800 and Boston dentist $1k-$1,200 for a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown. Pet Insurance is no relief: Embrace Pet insurance covered a total of $60 (paying $390 for a wellness policy). Wow — that’s an awesome fee for pulling a baby tooth from my pup.

I was asked to arrive at 8:45 a.m. sharp (left my home at 6:30 a.m. to make it) to find there was another procedure scheduled before hers. My pup was kenneled until early afternoon and I lost a full day’s work for the 12 minute actual extraction procedure. Surely a 3 hour window for my pups care would have sufficed.
